Personal statement Renate Müller Huwyler
1. Are my treatments more effetiv?
Yes especially for trutural problems, such as blockades of the iliosacral joints, the area between L5/S1 or the dorsal vertebrasremoval of JaKi, be it of superficial JaKi at the beginning of a treatmet, or ofdeep JaKi inside the body, caused by an unbalance in an organ or through old injuries.
The deeper levels of Extra- and Divergent Meridians and the Ocean System were not known to me before. This system is a great enrichement for my work, makes it more interesting and more effective and in one way also less fatigueing physically.
The new techniques are not all equally helpful to me.
a) I am still struggling with the IP Cords, I find it often too complicated to integrate into a treatment
b) I like to do Jaki Hari for structural problems or painful areas (NE - circles)
c) I do especially love the removal of JaKi on Divergent level thorugh connecting two points or by applying the MuBunSai - Chart, followed by working along the spine on the back. This gentle, quiet work goes very deep through all layers (and ones mind does not always have to know what exactely it is which is resolving itsel at that momt - it just happens).
2. Do I have more confidence for the treatment of difficult cases?
Yes, I approach demanding cases more relaxedly and with more confidence. I was never very happy with the normal Hara diagnosis, it was often too subjectiv to me, not neutral. With Ted's method now I find
a) that the diagnosis gets much clearer
b) that by meas of testing the different energy levels it becomes clear how grave a problem really is, because clients perceive their state of health very differently: some lessen their problems, some exaggerate and others are very clear in their perception. When I can feel on what level my client is, this is very helpful to me and also assuring, it tells me whether to worry, may be even send her to see a doctor, or whether she may have more anxiety than necessary.
3. Do I have more or different cases?
I do not have more cases than before, the number has been fairly the same in the years 2004, 2005 and 2006, inclining to a slight deterioration. However, the focus and the number of treatments in Craniosacral Therapy have decreased in favour of Shin So Shiatsu. This depends mainly on what I propose to my clients and has developped in this direction, because the quality of Shin So Shiatsu comes very close to Craniosacral Therapy in its quality of stillness, of giving space and letting happen what has to take place.
Already before this Shin So training I had clients with cancer, MS or other severe problems, but not many at a time so that I could cope fairly well with these cases. This has not changed much since then. However, last year two of my clients died of cancer and here Sin So Shiatsu has helped me to feel and accept that I can only help to a certain limit, and to assist them in an appropirate way..
4. How has the feedbach of clients changed?
The feedback as to reactions in the body became more accurate. When connecting two points, for instance, they realize that "something is happening" - may be at an area in their body far away from the connected points, or they have a sudden insight about the cause of their problem. What they all love is the work with Master Points and also of the balancing points for the different energy levels (GI, ZU, DE, NA ....).
5. Has Shin So Shiatsu changed me personally?
It has furthered me on my professional and spiritual way, I enjoy my work more than before and I appreciate it very much that there is yet more to learn.
What I have noticed is that in a certain way I have more distance to my clients than before. Through eliminating suberficial JaKi at the beginning of a treatment, and in the following diagnosis hardly touching the client, I am less cloce to them at the start. This is rather a relief than an annoy, because it gives space between the client and me.
6. Some experience that I would like to share:
a) As noticed above, I do not work often with IP Cords (probably I should try first on me!). With clients, I have made twice the expierence of a very strong reaction, they got slight nausea and dizziness, which dissolved through treatment of the main meridian while the IP-Cord was doing its effect. Whether trough this method - the treatment of the meridian at the same time - the effect of the IP-Cords was lessened I do not know. However, the clients felt relieved by this.
b) Thed had recommend us to give free treatments so as to have the possibility to experiment with this work. This I have done for example with a client who has suffered a severe car accident with havy whip brush trauma in December 2003. At that time she came to me for Craniosacral Therapy. Since March 2006 she comes again, now for Shiatsu. From May to August 2006 I did a second case study with her. Because of her chronic headaches - a result of her whip brush injury - and also because she was under great professional and personal stress at the time, she was always at DE-level when she came for treatment. We tried out different methods (Jaki Hari, IP-Cords) with the result of a momentary improvement that, however, never lastet for long. This gave me the idea to work on a deeper level than indicated by the diagnosis, i.e. in her case on Ocean level. I worked with the MuBunSai - Chart: for a couple of days afterwards she felt completely free of pain - wonderful. The following treatments I did the same, and at the time beeing she is usually on ZU-level when she comes.
c) Moxa for Jaki Hari: Claudia and I found out a small refinement:
To Moxa sticks diagonally for jitsu circles
One Moxa stick in the middle of the circle for kyo circles
We do not yet have much experience with this method.
Concluding, I would like state how pleased I am to have got to know Sin So Shiatsu and am looking forward the new information in the future.
